Overview

Welcome to Horticulture Australia Council's information site on the proposed Horticulture Code of Conduct.

On 14 May 2007 the federal government implemented the Horticulture Mandatory Code of Conduct.

All fruit and vegetable growers were encouraged to participate in the consultation process and have their say on what the code should contain.

The call for a mandatory code came about as the result of industry’s call for greater contractual clarity and transparency in fruit and vegetable trading.

Growers are encouraged to seek information from your participating industry group.

You are also encouraged to understand the impact the proposed code will have on your business and respond if you support or have issues with the draft code.

During 2005, growers were invited to attend public consultation meetings, held throughout Australia, to have their say.

Final submissions in regard to the draft RIS and Code were due by the end of August 2005.

The Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Mr McGauran announced on 19 September 2006 that the mandatory Code of Conduct was expected to be endorsed by Parliament before the end of the 2006 sitting year, with implemenation in 2007.
